Interglossia Africana (IA) is purposely designed as a thought-provoking one-stop shop and, most importantly, an empowerment and networking tool at the service of translation, interpreting, terminology, lexicography and intercultural communication in Africa. IA is committed to the idea that all these areas are closely interrelated, especially so within the African context, generally marked by multilingualism and multiculturalism.

Through its Translational Communication News (TCN) portal, it provides updates and, sometimes, mind-tickling information to which readers are free to react by sending in comments and rejoinders. English is the main interface language; however, articles in other official languages of Africa, including French, Portuguese, Spanish and Swahili, are currently welcome. And, naturally, articles and reflections on translation, interpreting, lexicography, terminology and intercultural communication involving any of the other 2000 or so languages of Africa remain a top priority.

Above all, IA and TCN pages give particular attention to the needs of students and budding practitioners as well as those of teachers, researchers and experienced professionals, based on a regular assessment of frequently asked questions (FAQs).

In addition to miscellaneous news and information, IA and TCN offer avenues for empowerment and networking through specific pages dedicated to the following:

Job links, on relevant vacancies and offers;

Resource links, on useful reference documents, including database, dictionaries, encyclopedia, corpora and corpus analysis tools, online tutorials, machine translation and translation memory tools, research journals, etc. preferably in dependable open access;

Prizes, Scholarships and Grants links, on funding opportunities;

Conferences and Seminars links, on relevant scholarly conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops;

Terminology and Lexicography links, on course programmes, tutorials, tools as well as relevant reference documentation;

Translation and Interpreting links , including course programmes, tutorials, tools as well as relevant reference documentation

Fora and discussion links.

Besides, Interglossia Africana is particularly committed to encouraging high quality publications, notably through free-access, peer-reviewed journals, namely:

Proverbial – A journal on proverb translation in/from African languages;

Tafsiri – the African journal of translation and interpreting;

Termina & Lexica – A Journal on Terminology and Lexicography in Africa.
